We did exactly this as we embarked on a whistle stop tour of the stunning city of Maastricht. Nestled neatly between Belgium and Germany, this southern piece of the Netherlands is strikingly different in terrain and architecture to anywhere else I've visited. Quaint, winding streets, wobbly, old buildings, crumbling city walls, oh and lots and lots of food and drink!
If you're looking for a city with the perfect mixture of history and modern life then I urge you to give Maastricht a visit. Add it to your travel 'to do list' for the summer and enjoy the bustling atmosphere with a Belgium beer on one of the many terraces, take a tour of the city walls and absolutely stop by the Dominicanen church that is converted into a bookshop (photos to follow in it's very own blog post)!
For now, however, I leave you with a handful of photographs from our day wandering around, eating cheese and drinking beer, admiring the picturesque views from the bridges, book shopping and soaking up the most glorious sunset.
