Greetings wonderful humans! Since we're knee deep in May by now I decided to do a little digging around to see what fun, enriching things I could find to help add a sparkle of something special to this shiny, happy month. The birds are a'flight, the days are stretching out into relaxed and gentle evenings so why not up the ante by adding a few of these highlights to your calendar?
Literary Releases
The perfect travel companion if you're off on a city weekend break or for taking a little time to yourself, these soon to be available and highly anticipated books are on the top of my purchase list. Since We Fell by Dennis Lehane will be accompanying me to Canada later this month (hello 9 hour flight/ guilt free reading time!) and one to add a little spice is White Fur by Jardine Libaire, so not to be missed.
Culture Club
Live your childhood dreams of traipsing the halls of some of the UK's most spectacular museums after hours! Museums at Night is an amazing event held at top locations all across the country during the month of May and surely the most original evening out you'll have had in a while. While you're topping up your cultural tank why not head behind the scenes, literally, and enjoy a truly special experience at the Studio to Stage BRB event, held at the Birmingham Royal Ballet headquarters. This one of a kind evening invites you to witness the dancers carrying out their pre-show rituals, warm-ups and costume preparations, rehearsals and all the technical procedures leading up to an excerpt from one of their best performances Coppelia (and a personal favourite of mine!) If a creative day out is more your cup of tea then look no further than The Handmade Fair, for the first time ever at a new (more central) location yet featuring just as many jam packed stalls, workshops and crafty treasures as their beloved annual event in London. For more of an idea of what to expect at the fair then be sure to check out my review post from last years event!
Turn It Up
An ceremony that can not be missed is the legendary Fleetwood Mac playing at the O2. I repeat... Fleetwood. Friggin. Mac. Enough said, right? If you're more of a singing in the shower type then perhaps the long awaited release of a new Paramore record will hit the spot? It's been years since they dropped a new album and this one is already striking a chord with devoted fans and newbies alike. Music wise this month it's also time to dust off your flower headbands and start your positive affirmations as Retro Misery Priestess Lana Del Rey finally hits us with her latest record Lust For Life. As if this Spring couldn't get any better!
Fashion Favourites
As it is Mother's Day in many countries around the world, later this week, the stunning lingerie brand ThirdLove have created the perfect gift box for the ultimate role model in your life, but get this- not only are you sending a heartfelt reminder of how much mum means to you, ThirdLove are also donating 10% of each gift box sale to Every Mother Counts an extraordinary non-profit charity dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every woman. Pretty great, right? Another notable fashion moment comes from the launch of the seriously stylish and humorous Alexa Chung's own label! Set to make waves across the UK in stores such as Selfridges, Alexa's collection promises to be a contemporary priced, ready-to-wear line, and I for one can not wait!
Popcorn Time
To round things off nicely, Hollywood have decided to drop a heap ton of epicness on our big screens the next few weeks and there is something for everyone! (Or ALL for you, if you're greedy like me!) Let's kick this list off with the noblest of tales King Arthur. That's right pals, this sage story has been given the Guy Ritchie treatment, stars a whole bunch of top-notch actors and looks incredibly promising for all historical fiction and action movie fans. Bringing the creep factor is the newest addition to the Alien movie franchise Alien: Covenant, scaring the poop out of viewers since '79. For a light palette cleanser and a smidge of eye candy may I present to you... Baywatch! Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron strap on the infamous red swims and save the
After all this excitement you'll need a vacation, I'm sure, so feel free to tag along on my three week trip round the rocky mountains of Canada via snap happy Instagram and the Faded Windmills facebook page for all the moose, bears, bacon and burgers you can shake a stick at!
