Textured Treasures // High End Embroidery

Greetings wild and wonderful creatures. Since embroidery, patches and all manner of applique are storming the high street at the moment, as predicted in my Everyday Fashion post 'Bitchin Stitchin', I figure now is a swell time to take it up a notch or two. Yes friends, we're looking at all things dramatically adorned and embellishments of grandiose- high end embroidery.

A beloved technique used to build texture, to add depth and detail all working together to tell another part of the story. Whether it's stitched in metallic thread or beaded in sparkling gems, these beauties are works of art in themselves so please sit back and enjoy this collection of couture goodness!

Valentino Spring 2017- sheer / softness / dreamy / nature / fine line detailing / garden of Eden /

Schiaparelli Couture Fall 2015- bright / fluro / sequins / gold / contrast / folk influence /

Mary Katrantzou F/W 2014- regal / bold / military / formal / badges / layering / graphic /

Ashish S/S 2016- colour clash / stippled / star burst / vibrant / edgy / contrasting / fresh /

Alexander McQueen Fall 2016- soft / emotive / fairytale / ethereal / sparkle / storybook /

Valentino A/W 2016- medieval / rope / naval / metallic / gilded / velvet / high impact /

Elie Saab A/W 2016- florals / delicacy / beading work / black detailing / dramatic effect /

These gorgeous gowns are dramatic exaggerations of an often 'out there' concept, allowing the Creatives to really sell their inspirations and ideas on a grand scale, having zero limitations in their practicality or wearablilty.  When successful these stunningly over-the-top designs are used to fuel the trend-led high street fires, offering colour palettes, silhouettes and of course in this case embellishment techniques, leading to a filtered down version accessible to us via our favourite department stores, boutiques and even independent labels. Inspiration is everywhere!

Personally I'm loving this resurgence of stitched details and can't get enough of pimping my current wardrobe and accessories with a bit of needle and thread!
